The Mount Vernon Statement (a differing view)
Posted by admin / Under Mount StewartWhat is there to say about this statement, which is being called a new conservative manifesto? Someone might object that Russell Kirk said that conservatives do not have manifestoes, but that would be entirely too quaint and old-fashioned. What is one to make of the organizers selection of the site of George Washingtons home for a statement that refers to a foreign policy of advancing freedom and opposing tyranny in the world? I would say that it is in extremely poor taste, but then this statement is not directed at people like me. My admiration for Washington comes partly from...

Posted by admin / Under Mount StewartThere have been demands and calls and rulings and all sorts of actions all indicating that the world will expect Israel to fully retreat behind the pre 67 borders, also known as the Green Line. Perhaps it would be advantageous to inspect the history behind the demarcation of the Green Line and establish what validity it holds as an actual recognized border. Sit back and relax, this will take a while to explain and reveal. I will try to be as brief as I am able. The Balfour Declaration was made in November 1917 by the British Government that set...

Lawyer: ACLU wants to destroy vets' memorial
Posted by admin / Under Mount StewartAn individual from San Diego who is "discomfited" over a veterans' memorial has prompted the American Civil Liberties Union to renew its attack on the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial. The Thomas More Law Center said yesterday it is preparing to defend the cross memorial from a new attack by the ACLU, this time in U.S. District Court in California. A 17-year-long battle apparently reached a conclusion earlier this month when Congress approved and President Bush signed legislation giving ownership and control of the memorial to the federal government. That essentially should have ended a state case over the monument that...
